Anup Thapa

I am born to be a filmmaker my soul tells me everyday. I see the things in the world with my inner eye. I was born in a small village called "Gaindakot" in Nepal, finishing high school I moved to Brisbane, Australia in 2009 then started studying commercial cookery. After my citizenship I enrolled myself in a Diploma of Film & TV production at JMC Academy, Brisbane where I learned most of the pre-production of the film. After completion I have written/produced and Directed short films chronologically THE LAST HUG, KASTURI, ASTITWA, THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND and IM/PURE. Now I am planning for a full fledged movie next year.professionally I am an Enrolled Nurse and currently studying my Bachelors in Nursing as well. Where I am now is a dream of someone who comes from a small country and coming this far, I am not going to stop. One day my dream is to hold an ACADEMY Awards for my country NEPAL and AUSTRALIA..


Your project has entered in our festival. What is your project about?
My project is an intertwined tale of biblical character meets Nepalese mythological characters that is linked to human emotions.

What are your ambitions with your project?
To be able to represent Nepal as a strong contender for filmmaking.

Tell us something about your shooting? What pleasantly surprised you?
We went to shoot remote location in eastern Nepal where our production went for over midnight but there were still a crowd where mother carrying little kids and waiting for our actor to meet them which surprise me that Nepali crowd still have the same love and dedication to our films similar like in my childhood.

For what group of spectators is your film targeted?
Mature aged group other than Nepalese audience.

Why should distributors buy your film?
My film is a unique tale where all the genres mix such as thriller, horror, family drama, suspense, mythology, and karma.

How would you specify your work? What characterizes your film?
I believe in good scripts and my actors has succeeded my expectation. It is a story of every village in Nepal.

Why did you decided to become a filmmaker?
Film is my life and since childhood I have always been attacked towards the cinema and it is a way to create my fantasy and bring it to real life.

Mike Flanagan, David Fincher, Jonathan Demme, Sanjay Leela Bhansali,

Which movies are your favorites? Why?
Silence of the lamb, Bonnie and Clyde. I enjoy top notch serial killer movie with a plot twist.

Where do you look for inspiration for your films?
My childhood and Nepali folklore.

Which topics interest you the most?
Mythological and folklore character.

What do you consider your greatest achievement in your career?
When I decide to study filmmaking.

What do you consider most important about filming?
Scripts, lighting and sound.

Which film technique of shooting do you consider the best?
Directing.

How would you rate/What is your opinion about current filmmaking?
I am always critical about my film but this one is almost perfect. 8.5/10

What can disappoint you in a movie?
When crew and cast think more about finance then passion.

Who supports you in your film career?
My partner.

What are the reactions to your film? (opinion of spectators, film critics, friends and family)
They enjoy the character layers, acting, directing and Nepalese touch.

Have you already visited any of the prestigious film festivals?
I am applied and awaiting results.

What are your future plans in filmmaking carrier?
I want to be first Nepalese-Australian filmmaker to won Academy and BAFTA Awards.
