Interview:
1. Your project has entered in our festival. What is your project about?
A=First of all, it is a great honor to be able to be at this Magnificent Festival and also to be able to share my experience with you. Life REBORN is about the bond between a father and his daughter, which is shown through a Great and Potential Space Game. LUCAS (Marcel Barragán) and his daughter CLARISA (María Alexandra Sanz), recreate a wonderful trip to space as NASA crew members. Clarisa is very ill at a terminal point. The objective of this trip is to connect with a Magical Universe for her salvation, and in a great adventure, they succeed! Life REBORN poses a Powerful, Invulnerable and Unknown Universe to many, where Every Possibility is Possible.
2. What are your ambitions with your project?
A= Follow this beautiful path of Festivals and at the same time we are working to make it a Feature Film. In addition, this film is promoting a Great Feature Film (almost a musical) in which I have been working for 7 years. This project has an immense social reach through music, especially among children, and it is something that does not exist in many countries.
3. Tell us somethng about your shooting? What pleasantly surprised you?
A= Being able to handle a large part of the project in Sequence Shots is something very pleasant and satisfying, it was a fairly intense night challenge. Life REBORN was filmed very quickly for reasons of time. So it was very demanding for everyone and especially for the little actress, that was my surprise, that she understood what we wanted to do and that she also enjoyed it.
4. For what group of spectators is your film targeted?
A= Everyone, from children to adults.
5. Why should distributors buy your film?
A= More than having to buy my film, it is that they are part of the development of the feature film. Because what we offer is quite different, in addition to the fact that the film is profitable and commercial, it is what the project offers as a reach and image promotion in the world. The film is accompanied by a great Program which benefits many people, the country where it is filmed, the financiers and distributors.
6. How would you specify your work? What characterizes your film?
A= I look for my work to be deep, to contribute something to each person, to be an experience for the viewer no matter what genre of film it is. Life REBORN is characterized by something very important... I can tell you that everything is told through leadership and many attributes of the female gender. A girl who lives on the edge of death, is capable of intuiting the last breath of her life and giving the order to pilot a special ship, take it to her destination and connect with another level of consciousness capable of healing her. And also, being able to express what was experienced on the trip through a higher level of perception; of the world and life. A story where Music is another main character.
7. Why did you decided to become a filmmaker?
A= Because I discovered that when I work as a Filmmaker, I don't work. It is impossible for me to feel that I am working when I am immersed in such a great, ineffable and infinite passion. It's something I haven't felt doing anything else. For me, cinema is more than cinema, it is meaning, and that also includes many people.
8. Who is your role model?
A= I can tell you that I have models that inspire me, because my role model is the same Marcel Barragán Araya of the future, a accomplished, stable and unattached Filmmaker. A Marcel satisfied to do what he loves and to contribute to many others. Iñárritu, Christopher Nolan, Sylvester Stallone, Kathryn Ann Bigelow, Christian Bale, Elia K. Schneider and many others inspire me, I don't have a favorite, I have favorites.
9. Which movies are your favorites? Why?
A= Imagine... I can mention Jocker, Top Gun, Rocky, Cidirella Man, Interstellar, Collateral Beauty, Point Break, Batman (Nolan), Advengers (Infinity War and Endgame) and many more. For me they have been films that for various reasons make me reflect in some way, make me ask questions, study the reason for the stories, the way of directing and the commitment of the actors. Some of them marked my youth and I never knew why until I became a Filmmaker. I love the stories of overcoming.
10. Where do you look for inspiration for your films?
A= Inside of me, when something excites me a lot. If that happens then I can make things happen on set. The cinema itself is inspiring for me, watching movies I can think of millions of things that I later put on paper. And music, music is essential to my films.
11. Which topics interest you the most?
A= The themes with which I can identify in some way, it can even be a character. Regardless of the genre of the movie, there must be something that I can believe and feel. If that happens to me, it can happen to other people. And that's when I start to shape the letters.
12. What do you consider your greatest achievement in your career?
A= There are two, the first is my feature film REDEMPTION, because I consider it a school film, and consequently, a great TEACHER. And now Life REBORN, because although I did it with a lot of love and passion, I never expected these results.
13. What do you consider most important about filming?
A= Several things, but something that can predominate is a team that can mesh, and that have criteria of what they are doing. And without screaming, without ego authoritarianism. Because you can have a wonderful script and even a lot of money, but if there is no balance in the team or harmony, you may be working on a time bomb.
14. Which film technique of shooting do you consider the best?
A= I think that ultimately everyone applies their own technique. Particularly I have created a personal technique that starts from the music, I apply it from the script to the set, with Gestalt Therapeutic knowledge which I studied.
15. How would you rate/What is your opinion about current filmmaking?
A= It is a cinema that offers an ocean of possibilities, the digital era is achievable for everyone and I appreciate it immensely. Perhaps a detail about this, is that being so accessible; Anyone can use it, and many times they do it without criteria. The consequence is that not everything that is projected on a screen is a movie.
16. What can disappoint you in a movie?
A= That it lacks music, I have seen works that are submerged in long musical silences. That's not good or bad, it's just a matter of taste. Overacting that goes unnoticed and a script with cliche phrases.
17. Who supports you in your film career?
A= My family, my friends and even people I know very little. I believe that in many ways the Universe has shown me the way...
18. What are the reactions to your film? (opinion of spectators, film critics, friends and family)
A= Most of the opinions have been very emotional. Just because some people don't comment doesn't mean they didn't like it, they just don't comment. And if someone doesn't like it, it's normal and okay. I always say that it is impossible for everyone to like a movie, we would have to make a version for every person on this planet and thus please everyone, and that doesn't exist. So the only way to do is by doing.
19. Have you already visited any of the prestigious film festivals?
A= The truth is that no, but I'm close...
20. What are your future plans in filmmaking carriere?
A= Continue growing, covering and contributing more. Updating and learning everything I can.
