Mohamed Maged

Egyptian filmmaker, Co-Founder of DASH Group media & film production.
An international award-winning creative and film director. One of the Notable Alumni of the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, and studied at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York, USA. Achieved his Bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees in filmmaking and cinema studies from the Academy of Art in Egypt.

His whole life, he has studied and worked in the art field, worked in advertising, animation projects, TV commercials, and films, as a creative and film director, and participated in most of the hit campaigns, branding, and TV commercials in MENA over the past decade. 
Winning and being nominated for over 85 international and regional awards from different films and advertising festivals.

Your project has entered in our festival. What is your project about?
"Trapped" explores the concept of karma, following a young man who finds himself caught in an inescapable loop. No matter which direction he moves, he remains trapped within the same frame, reflecting the consequences of his past actions.

What are your ambitions with your project?
My ambition with "Trapped" was to create a thought-provoking film that challenges conventional narratives and encourages introspection. I aimed to captivate the audience with an enigmatic story and innovative storytelling techniques.

Tell us something about your shooting? What pleasantly surprised you?
Shooting "Trapped" at the New York Film Academy in LA was an incredible experience. What pleasantly surprised me was the dedication and creativity of the cast and crew. Their enthusiasm and commitment elevated the project.


For what group of spectators is your film targeted?
"Trapped" is designed to appeal to a broad audience interested in narratives that explore the consequences of one's actions, the concept of destiny, and the interplay between personal choice and fate.


Why should distributors buy your film?
Distributors should consider "Trapped" for its unique storyline, visual appeal, and the critical acclaim it has received at various film festivals. It offers a distinctive viewing experience that can engage and captivate audiences.


How would you specify your work? What characterizes your film?
My work is characterized by a desire to challenge conventional storytelling and provoke thought. "Trapped" is marked by its enigmatic concept, innovative visual storytelling, and deep exploration of complex human emotions.


Why did you decide to become a filmmaker?
I chose to become a filmmaker because I am passionate about storytelling. I believe that film is a powerful medium to connect with audiences on a profound level and share meaningful narratives.

Who is your role model?
My role models include filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan, who inspire me with their ability to craft compelling narratives and push the boundaries of storytelling.


Which movies are your favorites? Why?
Movies like "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Godfather." and "Cinema Paradiso" are favorites of mine due to their thought-provoking narratives and innovative storytelling techniques.


Where do you look for inspiration for your films?
I find inspiration in everyday life, art, literature, and the human experience. It's the small details and emotions that often spark the idea for a new project.


Which topics interest you the most?
I'm deeply interested in themes related to the human condition, the consequences of one's actions, and the choices we make in life.


What do you consider your greatest achievement in your career?
Winning awards for "Trapped" in various film festivals has been a significant achievement in my career. It's gratifying to see the film resonate with audiences.


What do you consider most important about filming?
The most important aspect of filmmaking, in my view, is the ability to connect with the audience emotionally and intellectually. It's about telling stories that leave a lasting impact.


Which film technique of shooting do you consider the best?
Every film requires a unique approach, so there's no one-size-fits-all technique. The best technique is the one that serves the narrative and enhances the viewer's experience.


How would you rate/What is your opinion about current filmmaking?
Current filmmaking is exciting, with a wealth of talent and innovation. Technology has expanded the possibilities, allowing for more diverse and engaging storytelling.


What can disappoint you in a movie?
In a movie, what can be disappointing is when the storytelling doesn't align with the potential of the concept, or when it fails to emotionally engage the audience.


Who supports you in your film career?
I'm fortunate to have a supportive family and network of fellow filmmakers, mentors, and, most importantly, the passion for storytelling that keeps me motivated.


What are the reactions to your film? (opinion of spectators, film critics, friends and family)
The initial reactions from the audience were a mix of curiosity and fascination, as some of them were directly involved in the events and felt that the main character in the film expressed them in one way or another. Overall "Trapped" has received positive feedback from audiences, with many appreciating the film's unique concept and emotional depth. It has also garnered favorable reviews from film critics.


Have you already visited any of the prestigious film festivals?
Yes, "Trapped" has been screened at several prestigious film festivals, including the Alexandria International Film Festival, Golden Knight Film Festival, Swedish International Film Festival, and Festival Città di Imperia, among others.

What are your future plans in filmmaking career?
In the future, I plan to continue creating films that challenge and engage audiences. I'm currently working on a film project that explores the complexities of human relationships in a dramatic and emotional manner, and I'm excited to go into this new creative challenge, aiming to connect with audiences on a different level
