Sebastian Bauer

Beside my work as a marketing manager I have produced mainly commercials for all kind of companies over the years. In future I am heading forward to produce more feature films, because there is where my heart belongs to.

Your project has entered in our festival. What is your project about?
Hoplove is a film about hop growing, the music accompanies the journey through all farming activities within a year with insights into the hop industry, the violin represents the love connected to the plant itself. It is a journey through the hop year at Lake Constance. Tettnang hops are exported all over the world, not least because of their incomparable aroma.

What are your ambitions with your project?
My ambitions with the project „hoplove – a journey through the hop year at Lake Constance" are to show the world the beautiful region of Lake Constance where I live right now in connection with the hop which is a remarkable plant. Tettnanger Aroma Hops is known all over the world to make good and tasty beer with it. But in this case we wanted to give the plant a soul by the music we composed for it (Music is by Matthias Schilling msaudioproduction in Berlin). We wanted to bring hops to live and give a feeling for the culture in our region.

Tell us something about your shooting? What pleasantly surprised you?
Especially the theatre scenes in our capturing process let ourselves be breathless, because it was simply breathtakingly beautiful. So we really found the perfect location to capture the main scenes of our movie.

Why should distributors buy your film?
Distributor should buy the film to show that documentaries can be made in a completely different way. Out of reality we made some kind of fairy tale which inspires the watcher and makes him enjoy.

Why did you decided to become a filmmaker?
I decided to become a filmmaker directly after school that was in 2006. Since then I produced and was part of a lot of different projects and many topics. But now I git to the point I have everything I need to produce the stories I want to on a high standard level.

Who is your role model?
My role model is this kind of movie maker who writes, produces and directs in one that means author productions. I love to realize my own visions from the bottom.

Which movies are your favorites? Why?
My favorite movies are dramas combined with fiction, comedy or a good love story / expressful message. Dramas are very close to the real life and can ban the watcher. Specifically Christopher Nolan movies always got my 100 % attention and adoration. I also love Ridley Scott movies, because he puts expressive legends, stories or persons of history in the foreground.

Where do you look for inspiration for your films?
My inspiration comes from watching hundreds of movies and traveling a lot. I always dream a lot so I guess I have a brain which simply loves to create new things. I am proud to make something on my own.

Which topics interest you the most?
For the future I will focus on expressive music videos and my first feature films: writing my own good researched stories and bring them to life.

What do you consider your greatest achievement in your career?
In 2014 I cuttet a movie called „Sahara Salaam" for a director called Wolf Gaudlitz (Munich/Palermo), this was a documentary with over 2 hours runtime. I love this movie we made, because there are many unique characters in that movie.
My new project: „hoplove – a journey through the hop year at Lake Constance" is definitely a new milestone for me, even more because we already won 6 Awards on different film festivals until now.

What do you consider most important about filming?
About filming I'd say it's most important for me to have a very clear vision of how the music should be and feel in the end. Only if you don't lose the focus about what you want to transport, you can leave the impact you want.
Taking enough time for preparation, good organization and budget planning. Choosing the right actors, of course.

Which film technique of shooting do you consider the best?
My favorite film techniques are stabilized steady cam and drone flights. Flying perspective always adds some magic to the movie.

How would you rate/What is your opinion about current filmmaking?
I think there is a lot of diversity in current film making. You can find everything. So it's important to develop your own significant style which inspires people.
There are a lot of good movies out there and impressive productions within the last few years.

What can disappoint you in a movie?
I get disappointed with movies when there is nothing remarkable to find in them. Or better said: if I can't find a special clou or important message or surprising moment, something what catches my attention and touches me. A movie always needs a goosebump-moment. The same happens for the soundtrack.

Who supports you in your film career?
My father always supported me in my film career. He introduced me into film making when I was a little boy. He supported my education too. But in the end I feel my passion for film making is that big, that it will pour out of me. So in the end I will try to realize my projects, if there is support or not.

What are the reactions to your film? (opinion of spectators, film critics, friends and family)
My latest movie earned a lot of great reaction, even standing ovations. I didn't expect that but it caused me a deep satisfaction. I was also surprised that many festival directors wrote to me, that they also want to have my movie in their program. That's a great honor.

Have you already visited any of the prestigious film festivals?
Until know I haven't travelled anywhere but I am ready for it. Until then I will enjoy the online screenings of my movie.

What are your future plans in filmmaking carriere?
My next movie will be a short film in the context of a drama love story. But I will ensure that it will be something no one has seen before in this way.
